EigenLayer

EigenLayer [14] is a restaking platform constructed using Ethereum smart contracts. EigenLayer first introduced the concept of restaking. Users who have staked ETH can opt into EigenLayer’s smart contracts to restake their ETH, thereby extending crypto-economic security to additional applications on the network. Inspired by EigenLayer, Exocore has evolved this concept into an omnichain restaking protocol, introducing consensus-based governance and more crypto-economic design primitives, such as union restaking, to AVSs. Unlike EigenLayer’s smart contract-based model, Exocore itself is a decentralized network which acts as a buffer that prevents the overloading of social consensus on L1 networks due to restaking [5].
