Proof of Stake

The introduction of Proof-of-Work (PoW) as the mechanism for Sybil attack prevention in the Bitcoin whitepaper [9] laid the foundation for blockchain technology. As the industry has matured, the drawbacks of PoW have been criticized due to its significant energy consumption for hashing computations. Proof-of-Stake (PoS), as an alternative to PoW, has gained widespread adoption by modern blockchain systems including Ethereum 2.0, Cosmos, Polkadot, Polygon, Avalanche [3, 6, 8, 13, 18], etc. PoS serves as both a Sybil resistance mechanism for consensus and as an economic incentive model to prevent network participants from acting maliciously. The staking of native blockchain tokens, such as ETH, has given rise to the innovative concept of restaking. Exocore positions itself as a omnichain restaking platform that facilitates the restaking of diverse tokens in a omnichain environment.
